Work Station Workshop Plan

Authentic Assessment activity: This workshop is created in hopes of assisting teachers in their literacy work stations and small reading groups. Therefore, the participants will be devising a plan of implementation. The teachers will be using a graphic organizer to assist in their work. Mayer's principle of active processing will be used by having the student fully engaged in the PowerPoint by using relevent infomraiton in the form of video, audio, and graphic organizers.

Presentation: I will be using PowerPoint to create a presentation offering text and graphics to assist in learning and to use dual channels. Videos, audio, and graphic organizers will assist in processing the information. I will be chucking the information to be sure to accommodate the limited capacity in processing.

Graphic Organizer: The graphic organizer I plan to use is a Mind Map. The participants will be using Webspiration to create the mind map.

Pre-training: Participants will need to be able to use basic Internet and computer skills. Also, prior knowledge of reading and literacy are needed. In order to pre-train the participants, I will have them complete a sample literacy work station.

Equipment and Materials: The equipment and materials needed are as follows - desks, large room, extra space, computers, Internet access, and projector.

Online: Webspiration will be used to create a mind map.

Collaboration: Participants will be working in groups of 3. They will brainstorm and create a plan of implementing literacy work stations into their own classrooms.
